This is a restaurant that specializes in pork and budae jigae aka army soup (부대찌개). It’s located in Migeum (미금) in Bundang (분당). The price was pretty good and the best part is rice and ramen are free refill!

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

8,000 won per person
청춘부대찌개 which translate Youth Army Soup, which is meant to mean that it is a nostalgic taste from our youth.

You can add different sides for extra cost but rice and ramen is free refill!

IMG_4095

Very simple side dishes since the soup already has different ingredients.

IMG_4107
IMG_4111
IMG_4109

It wasn’t too salty and wasn’t too spicy. Just right.

IMG_4102

All you can eat pork and doenjangjigae (된장찌개) for 11,000 won per person! The quality of meat is not too bad. This restaurant is part of a chain! There are multiple ones throughout Bundang and Seoul. Unfortunately, the one we went to, I think, is gone.

IMG_4060
IMG_4062

All you can eat 3cm thick pork cuts, bean sprout and kimchi, and soup!

IMG_4051
img_4049.jpg
IMG_4036

Basically saying not to put the heat to the highest since the pork can burn.

IMG_4041

Main menu is the all you can eat pork and soup for 11,000 won. You can order rice for an extra 1,000 won. If everyone in the table orders rice, then it’s free refill as well!

The side menu says theres also raw meat (육회), cold buckwheat noodles (냉면), steamed eggs (계란찜). They also have soju and beer for 4,000 won. If you want a translation of the menu, message us!

It also says that if 4 people come in as one table, they will give you free 1.25L Coke.

IMG_4039

Translation (Summary):

How to Enjoy to the 100%

– Basically says that the first serving is given but the customers have to get the refills for themselves.

– When paying, you have to remember the table number.

– Do not raise the heat level to 3, the highest, because the pork will burn and set off the alarms.

– Only pork should be on the grill. For kimchi and bean sprouts, use container provided to cook.

– To prevent wasted food, only take little by little.

– Drinks and side menu should be ordered through the staff but water and such is prepared for self service.

IMG_4034

The basic setup that is provided when you enter the restaurant. Refills are self service.

IMG_4043

The different pork meats!

IMG_4044

Beansprouts and kimchi is to be cooked in this container and not directly on the grill.

IMG_4047

Doenjang Jigae that is to be cooked over the grill.

I didn’t get to take pictures of the self-service bar but it’s well organized so you can take what you need.

Gamsung Taco – Pangyo Branch 🌮

While I was visiting Korea, I was craving some “Mexican” food and found this place called “Gamsung Taco” located in Pangyo.

I must note that because the ingredients are different in Korea, the flavors are not completely authentic, however, the restaurant had the closest flavors to the quesadilla and fajita that I’ve had in the states. I personally prefer the “Americanized” taste for quesadillas and fajitas. The service at the location wasn’t the best. They were taking in customers, but they were serving them. We had to actively look for the servers to order.

Clubespresso ☕

A quaint little cafe that has coffee from different places around the world. There was quite a bit of people when we went. The first floor has a display of their coffee and the second floor has seating. The best part is that you can taste the coffee of the day before ordering! The coffee was okay, nothing too special but it was interesting to see the different types of beans.

IMG_4071

You can taste the coffee of the day prior to ordering! Many people didn’t realize this before ordering.

IMG_4074

More display of coffee. The prices of the beans here weren’t cheap, probably because of the import costs.

Agalico Itaewon

It’s a nice wine bar or tapas place that I went with a friend. This one is the second store! We had vin chaud and some dishes on a cold day. The food is actually pretty good! It was quite empty when we went. Look for the short video at the bottom!

This was so, so good. The octopus was not dry at all! It was very juicy and there was a lot of garlic and parmesan cheese on top. Plus, the plating is so cute. I thought they were escargots in the beginning.

Fika (Coex) 🇸🇪☕

Fika is often translated as “a coffee and cake break”, which is kind of correct, but really it is much more than that.

Fika is a concept, a state of mind, an attitude and an important part of Swedish culture. Many Swedes consider that it is almost essential to make time for fika every day. It means making time for friends and colleagues to share a cup of coffee (or tea) and a little something to eat.

Origin of the name The word fika actually derives from the 19th-century slang word for coffee: kaffi. Invert the word kaffi, and you get fika.

We went around 2PM, which was great because everyone who came for lunch already left. The restaurant was pretty quiet.

Korea has seen a boom in Western fast food restaurants. I think you can see McDonalds almost everywhere. Today, I wanted to show you how KFC looks like in Korea.

https://www.kfckorea.com/

First, the menu. KFC is a lot pricier than the other chicken places in Korea. There are huge differences compared to the States. For starters, they don’t have mashed potatoes or mac and cheese. They have sides like coleslaw, corn salad, nuggets and fries(and cheese fries). Mind you, the coleslaw and corn salad is nothing like the States. It’s very sweet. For dessert, they have egg tarts and  maple pecan pies.

IMG_3835

This is what the front looks like. The menu is difficult to see because they constantly flip to the next screen. Places like McDonalds have machines where you place your order. IMG_3837

It’s really clean. But then again, majority of fast food chains in Korea are kept in pristine conditions.
IMG_3841

The best part?

They deliver.
Yup. Most fast food restaurants in Korea deliver. IMG_3849

They developed an app so you can place your order, pick up, and leave. It’s like Starbucks and how they have the pickup option.img_3847.jpg

Refillable fountain drinks. There were many places where this wasn’t so. You had to pay 500won or so for a refill. IMG_3845

This is right next to the fountain drinks. The machine in the middle is a wet tissue dispenser. It’s so convenient especially since chicken is finger food. The drawers on the right contain: plastic bag to carry one drink, plastic bag to carry two drinks, and drink lids.IMG_3843

Instead of plastic spoons, they give you paper spoons that you fold and use.IMG_3864

Like so!
IMG_3866

This is coleslaw
IMG_3861

We got a mix of spicy and regular chicken.IMG_3859

I  usually love the biscuits at KFC in the States. But the biscuits here tasted a bit different. I usually love mixing butter and honey together. But KFC here only have these strawberry jam packets. They’re so convenient to use.IMG_3863

img_3871.jpg

Korea is big on recycling so you can see that there are different compartments for different things. They usually have a compartment for leftover drinks, cups, lids, and so on.

I’m always iffy about places that serve fried food because I don’t know how old their oil is. But luckily, this restaurant doesn’t reuse their oil. I hate when restaurants reuse their oil and there’s this icky oil smell.

My go to curry. I love tikka masala. The one here was okay but the spices weren’t as strong as I am used to. They made it to suit the Korean taste buds.

The set comes with yellow rice but they forgot about us.

India?
I thought it was good overall
I didn’t feel too full afterwards, which could be because we missed out on the chicken and rice…
The manager was very friendly. He seemed to be from India or maybe Bangladesh? But he was fluent in Korean, which was interesting.
